Australian National Field Days: 70 Years of Innovation, Community & Country Pride

Published: October 16, 2025

Every October, folks in the Australian agriculture industry gather in Borenore, just west of Orange, NSW — at the Australian National Field Days (ANFD). Since 1952, it has been where innovation meets tradition, and where the rural community comes together to celebrate everything that keeps the land — and those who work on it.

This year, Rencon Air & Land is proud to be exhibiting alongside our partners at D1 Store — DJI’s premier Australian reseller — at site B9–11. Together, we will be showcasing the future of land management with cutting-edge drone technology, LiDAR mapping, and aerial spraying solutions that are transforming the way Australia manages its land.

A Proud Legacy: From Paddocks to Progress

The very first ANFD was held in 1952, long before the event had its now-famous permanent home at Borenore. Back then, it took place on local farms, where machinery and tractors were tested in the paddocks. The idea was simple but powerful — give farmers the chance to see new agricultural technology in real working conditions.

Over time, what started as a few demonstrations on local farms became one of Australia’s most enduring agricultural events. Even after 70 years, the ANFD remains true to its roots: helping farmers, innovators, and families connect, learn, and grow together.

More Than a Field Day — It’s a Reunion

Beyond the machinery and tech, ANFD has always had strong roots — the people. When we spoke to the ANFD office team, they told us that at its core, the event has always been about connection. Out west, where communities can be hours apart, ANFD has become a social hub — a chance for farmers, families, and friends to come together, catch up, and celebrate rural life.

It’s a place where kids can explore, farmers can chat about the season, and families take pride in their region. From sheep yards to coffee vans, there is a real sense of belonging that keeps people coming back year after year.

The Evolution of AgTech

The event has evolved alongside the industry itself. From horse-drawn implements to self-driving GPS tractors — and now drones, sensors, and data mapping — the ANFD has always reflected where agriculture is heading next.

This is where Rencon Air & Land and DJI D1 Store come in. As a team that combines boots on the ground with eyes in the sky, we look forward to bringing the latest in drone spraying, fertilising, LiDAR, and thermal imaging to the forefront. Together with DJI’s D1 Store, we will be discussing how today’s aerial technology is helping land managers work smarter, faster, and safer — from precision spraying to large-scale mapping and environmental monitoring.

Celebrating 70+ Years of Progress

While ANFD officially marked its 70th anniversary in 2023 (after COVID delayed the 2021 milestone), the passion behind it has not slowed down. The event is still run by a dedicated committee of local farmers and community members — many of whose families have been involved since the 1950s. It is also a working farm year-round, with sheep still bred on-site between events.

From the humble beginnings of testing tractors to showcasing global AgTech, the Australian National Field Days have remained a celebration of progress built on community pride.
