Team Member: Zayne – From Farm Life to Rencon Air & Land

Published: May 29, 2025

This month, we’re shining the spotlight on Zayne, a team member based out of our Colac office. From his rural roots in dairy farming to taking on major land management projects across the country, Zayne has quickly become a trusted and valued member of the Rencon crew.

From Farm Life to Fieldwork

Zayne’s journey to Rencon began with a strong connection to land. Having worked as a dairy farmer, he was already familiar with hands-on work and the tough unpredictable nature of working outdoors. Growing up surrounded by friends who lived and worked on farms, Zayne found himself naturally drawn to rural work. “I always loved the atmosphere— cow number 265 was my favourite,” he said with a smile.

A good friend of his had been working at Rencon for five years and encouraged him to get in touch with Brad (Rencon’s National Sales & Operations Manager). A conversation turned into an opportunity—and the rest is history.

Joining the Rencon Crew

Zayne joined Rencon Air & Land in October 2023, and in less than two years, he’s grown from a new recruit to someone the team trusts to ‘carry the torch’ when leadership is away. “I’ve picked up more responsibility over time,” Zayne says.

A Day in the Life

A typical day at the Colac office starts at 8:00 AM with a team briefing. Whether it’s Brad or Ben outlining the day’s plans, the crew quickly gets into action—assuming the weather plays nice. Zayne enjoys the nature of the job, involving constant location variety. “You might be in the same spot for a few days, but it’s never boring. The variety keeps things interesting.”

Travel, Teamwork, and Tree Measuring in Queensland

When asked about his most memorable experience at Rencon, Zayne did not hesitate: a project in QLD with one of our clients’ measuring trees for carbon offset initiatives. “That was a great trip. The QLD guys looked after us VIC boys really well. It was fun, the work was different, and it was just a cool experience to get out of VIC.”

The Perks and the Challenges

For Zayne, the best part of the job is the travel—new locations, new landscapes, and new challenges. But those challenges aren’t always easy. “The weather is the hardest part,” he explains. “Rain can wash away sprays; wind can carry chemicals where they shouldn’t go. Sometimes you just have to wait it out, or pivot to something else like ute maintenance.” Despite the unpredictability, Zayne says the culture at Rencon is consistently positive. “It’s fun. Even if things go wrong, we’re still laughing. No one has a bad attitude—we make the best of it.”

Skills, Growth, and What’s Next

Since joining Rencon, Zayne has learned a lot—not just on the tools, but in terms of leadership and responsibility. “I’ve become more independent and accountable. It’s rewarding to be trusted.” He’s also eyeing new tech on the horizon, pointing excitedly to our aerial spray drone sitting in the shed. “I’d love to get into aerial spraying and mapping—that stuff’s exciting.”

Why Rencon?

Zayne sums up his experience at Rencon in one word: Rewarding. “There’s never bad energy. Everyone gets along. It’s a really positive team.”

With Zayne on board, the future at Rencon is in good hands. We can’t wait to see where his drive and dedication take him next.
