At Rencon Air & Land, one staff member stands out for his dedication and passion: Ben Young. Celebrating three years with the company, Ben’s journey in the pest control and boom spraying industry is as dynamic as the landscapes he works in.
Ben’s connection to Brad Morgan, Rencon’s National Services Manager, dates back to when they were both teenagers working at a dairy farm. Their friendship grew over the years, leading Ben to various roles, including a stint at Barongarook Pest Control and later training racehorses in the Northern Territory. When Ben returned to Victoria seeking new opportunities, he reached out to Brad, who welcomed him into the Rencon family with a position in broadacre boom spraying.
Ben’s responsibilities are diverse. With good weather on his side, he handles everything from pest control to small or large boom spraying projects and fire protection. His expertise is vital in maintaining healthy landscapes across the region.
Ben is particularly excited about the recent addition of a brand-new Land Cruiser equipped for boom spraying operations. With an 800-liter tank and boom capable of reaching 5, 10, or even 12 meters, the vehicle is designed to efficiently cover vast areas. For more precise work, Ben utilises a UTV, allowing him to tackle smaller areas with ease.
Looking ahead, Ben is eager to embrace drone technology for spraying. While he admits to feeling a bit intimidated by the idea of flying a drone, he recognizes the tremendous potential it offers, especially in hard-to-reach terrains. He acknowledges that many existing and new clients will benefit significantly from this innovation, making Ben’s work even more impactful.
What keeps Ben motivated at Rencon? The atmosphere cultivated by Brad and his team. “The work environment is great,” he shares. “All the boys out of Colac, along with the teams from Casterton and Hamilton, create a great camaraderie.” This supportive culture allows Ben to thrive in his role.
Recently promoted to supervisor, Ben has taken on new responsibilities that include engaging with clients and overseeing projects when Brad is away on business helping grow the company, he finds this new role rewarding, enjoying the challenges and interactions that come with it.
One of Ben’s favourite aspects of his job is the breathtaking landscapes he encounters. Whether he’s in The Otways, Port Fairy, or the High Country, the variety of scenery keeps his work exciting. He particularly enjoys traveling near Echua, where he can visit his two oldest kids after work.
One cherished memory that stands out for Ben is a day spent working in the Victorian High Country. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, he watched thunderstorm formations dance around him—a reminder of the unique experiences his job offers.
Ben Young’s journey with Rencon Air & Land exemplifies the dedication and passion that drives the team. As he embarks on his next chapter with boom spraying and continues to foster a supportive work environment, there’s no doubt that Ben will remain an invaluable asset to the company and the communities he serves.
