Smart Spraying Choices — What’s Best for Your Property?

Published: August 25, 2025

At Rencon Air & Land, we offer both ground-based boom spraying and aerial drone spraying to give you the most effective and efficient weed control for your property. While both methods achieve the same goal — applying targeted herbicide to problem weeds — the process and benefits of each are a little different.

Here’s a look at how they work and when each method shines.

Boom Spraying – Precision from the Ground Up

Boom spraying is carried out using a ute or vehicle equipped with a spray boom — a horizontal bar fitted with evenly spaced nozzles that distribute herbicide in a controlled, consistent pattern across large areas.

How it works:

The boom spraying process begins with a thorough property assessment, where we inspect the paddock to identify problem areas and liaise with the client to determine the most effective herbicide and spray rate. Once the plan is established, the boom sprayer is carefully calibrated.

The application is then carried out by driving the vehicle in a planned pattern across the paddock, delivering herbicide evenly over the target area. Depending on the type of weeds and the season, a follow-up application may be recommended to maintain long-term control and protect the paddock’s health.

Best for:

  • Large, open paddocks
  • Even ground
  • Broadacre weed control
  • Quick coverage over large areas

Drone Spraying – Agility in the Air

Aerial spraying by using specialised agricultural drones equipped with spray tanks and precision nozzles to apply herbicide from above.

How it works:

Drone spraying begins with detailed mapping and planning, where we use GPS technology to define the spray area and create an exact flight path. Once the area is set, the drone is loaded with the correct herbicide mix and programmed to follow its mapped route. During the flight, the drone maintains a controlled height, applying herbicide with precision — even in hard-to-reach or uneven terrain.

What makes the process even more effective is our ability to make real-time adjustments, adapting spray rates or focusing on specific problem patches while in flight to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy.

Best for:

  • Steep or rough terrain
  • Wet, boggy ground
  • Areas with trees, fences, or obstacles
  • Targeted patch spraying

Which One Should You Choose ?

Both boom spraying and drone spraying are highly practical and affordable options, and each gets the job done quickly and effectively.

The choice often comes down to the conditions of your property. Boom spraying is excellent for broad, open paddocks where large areas can be covered fast and efficiently. Drone spraying, on the other hand, really shines in those tough-to-reach or unsafe areas — like steep slopes, boggy ground, or spots where it’s not practical or safe for vehicles to go.

Rencon Air & Land has the team, technology, and know-how to deliver efficient weed control by air or by land.
