Drones Taking Out Risk: A Safer Way Forward

Published: August 26, 2025

Many landholders and managers across Australia are faced with these problems, gaining access to areas that are unstable underfoot, have uneven surfaces with harvest residue, sticks, rocks etc or steep in terrain. Season after season, land managers are forced to miss windows, losing the opportunity to get the most from that section of their property or capture valuable data to aid in their future management.

What had once been an inaccessible and wasted piece of land was suddenly back in production. With the drone, we are able to fertilise or spray quickly, safely, and without the need for machinery or boots to touch the ground. Not only is it a huge relief to the land manager but also a pleasant surprise to understand how easy the process is.

The efficiency of drone spraying is underestimated. Our drones are equipped with a 40-litre tank, allowing for extended application before a quick refill. The turnaround is fast — just one or two minutes to refill the container, swap a battery, and the drone is back in the air. Jobs that once carried risk and uncertainty can now be completed smoothly, safely, and in far less time.

From an occupational health and safety perspective, this technology is very useful. It eliminates the need to take heavy machinery into muddy or unstable areas, reducing the risk of accidents, equipment getting bogged, or operators working in unsafe conditions. The landowner who had struggled with this hazard for years now has a reliable, safe, and highly efficient solution — and can finally unlock the potential of a section of land that was previously unusable or provide cost efficiencies that had previously been labour heavy.

Spraying and fertilising are just one of many situations where drones provide a smarter and safer alternative. Across Australia, landowners face similar challenges: steep or rocky paddocks where machinery is at risk, flood-prone areas that remain inaccessible for weeks, or thick vegetation that makes traditional methods difficult.

In each of these cases, aerial drone technology provides a way to get the job done without putting people, equipment, or productivity at risk.
